Since age 10, I have always had at least one camera, taking photos on school field trips and then becoming a yearbook photographer in high school.  When I graduated from high school, I chose to keep photography as a hobby and purchased a Pentax camera with many lenses.  Over the years those cameras have changed and I currently shoot with a Canon 6D and a Canon RP. I process my photos in Lightroom.

About Donna . . .

My life is in rural Manitoba.

Family past-times include curling, quadding, hockey, skiing, fishing, camping, canoeing, travel, gardening, campfires, swimming, sharing good times with friends and family . . . and my favourite hobby of photography.  I watch the space weather reports and venture out on clear nights to capture the aurora and beauty of the night sky.

Our simple life is full every week.  On Sundays we attend the local church to fill our tanks with God's Holy Word and Sacrament so we may continue worshipping joyfully through each next week.

"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on wings as eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."  Isaiah 40:31

I have been taking photos of the Aurora Borealis since 2014. It is one of the most amazing sights to experience.  Capturing can be a challenge and I relish every moment.  We see distant aurora often, and overhead aurora occasionally.  2024 has been an incredible aurora year as we experience solar maximum. I follow aurora forecasters and web data to decide when it will be visible.  Sometimes I will drive to outrun the cloud cover, or go north to be under the aurora oval. When the conditions and forecasts are right, the best tool is patience!

Some of my favourite subjects are our native flowers in their natural habitat.  We are fortunate to live close to Arden where the Prairie Crocus blooms abundantly in April.  Our ditches have all sizes of the Yellow Ladyslipper in June, and the Showy Pink Ladyslipper at the end of June.

The harvest sunset has always been a thrill to get on film or digital image.  I don't often have my camera with me in the field, but I always have my cell phone to capture the story of our rural life.
